It is the day before Thanksgiving. Preparations are happening in many households to have a large feast. A time for family and friends to gather. How do you celebrate?
The Cafe is closed for the day. Staff will be spending time with family and friends. We are open again Friday.
Today we share a bit about the history of Thanksgiving.
Begin with the History Channel, and a bit about when this holiday began.
Quote from the brief note: ” It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.”
This is one of the many holidays that is fraught with controversy. The history changes with who tells the story.
Despite that, it has come to symbolize a day of feasting, to share with family and friend, to find gratitude in one’s life.
My family shared what they had to be grateful for before the meal. Many share prayers of thanksgiving for the bounty that lay before them.
What do you have to be grateful for today? Are there traditions that have a special place in your life?
We are grateful to all. For those who do not have this holiday, may they find the path to health and the resources to provide.
